Mustangs playing in Orange Bowl

The Costa Mesa Jr. Pee Wee Mustangs will be playing in the Orange

Bowl, the Division II championship game of the Orange Empire Pop

Warner Conference, at La Mirada High today at 1 p.m.

The Mustangs enter the game against the Huntington Beach Green

Chargers with an 8-1 record, and enter the contest on a five-game win

streak, dating back to a 24-14 loss to Los Alamitos Oct. 2.

Costa Mesa defeated the Green Chargers earlier this season, 8-0,

giving Huntington Beach its only loss.

The Mustangs are led by the offense of quarterback Mark Sakioka,

tailbacks Sho Watanabe, Tyler Henry and Parker Eddy; tight ends Matt

Porteous and Zack Porteous; and linemen Tre Lele, Michael Lions,

Bryan Guzman, Kyle Orton, David Griffin and Albert Lopez.

The defense consists of linemen Kyle Goss, Nathan Alvis, Ray

Holmes, Griffin, Roberto Ramirez and Tyler Porteous; linebackers

Lele, and Parker Eddy; and defensive backs Sakioka, Adam Speeds and

Luis Gomez.

Matt Porteous, Zack Porteous and Tyler Porteous are all brothers.

Costa Mesa has defeated their opponents this season by a combined

score of 175-46, while Huntington Beach has defeated eight of its

opponents, 175-22. The Oct. 30 game between Huntington Beach and

Santa Margarita was not reported.

Mesa defeated Lakewood, 14-2, in the first round of the playoffs,

and defeated Long Beach, 14-6, in the second round to advance to the

Orange Bowl.

The Mustangs are coached by Dan Bauer. Sean Patterson is the

assistant coach.
