Corona del Mar High, Costa Mesa and Newport Harbor all take to the

road today for the CIF Southern Section boys water polo

quarterfinals.

CdM (19-8), the No. 2 seed in CIF Division I, meets Loyola of Los

Angeles at Loyola Marymount University at 2 p.m.

Costa Mesa (19-6), which earned its first CIF playoff win in seven

years in Thursday’s Division II first round, meets No. 2-seeded Los

Alamitos at Golden West College at 4 p.m.

Newport Harbor (18-10) visits Harvard-Westlake at 3:15 p.m. in a

Division I clash.

The Sea Kings, champions of the Pacific Coast League, have won 11

of their last 12. They are trying to avoid a second straight CIF

quarterfinal loss, having been eliminated last season to end an

atypical 8-19 campaign.

First-year coach Sam Bailey guided the Sea Kings to a 12-6

first-round triumph over Laguna Hills Wednesday.

Loyola (18-9), runner-up in the Mission League, defeated Long

Beach Poly, 12-7, in the first round.

CdM has not played Loyola this fall.

Newport Harbor, coached by Jason Lynch, is hoping to avenge a 9-6

loss to Harvard-Westlake earlier this season. The Sailors got past

Mission Viejo, 15-10, in the first round.

Harvard-Westlake (22-3) trounced Tesoro, 19-4, in its playoff

opener.

Newport was eliminated in the Division I quarterfinals in 2003.

Costa Mesa, champion of the Golden West League, faces a Los

Alamitos squad that captured the Sunset League crown this fall. The

Griffins (21-4), eliminated Tustin, 15-2, in the first round.

Coach Tim Postiff’s Mustangs, meanwhile, knocked off La Habra,

10-6, to advance.

The Mustangs have not faced Los Alamitos this season.

The semifinals in both divisions are scheduled for Friday.
