The Newport Harbor High girls junior varsity volleyball team

defeating Foothill, Woodbridge, Irvine, Laguna Hills and Aliso Viejo

in it’s last five matches to finish in a first-play tie in the Sea

View League.

The team really began to gel and play as a cohesive unit by

eliminating unforced errors and taking advantage of the other teams’

weaknesses, according to Coach Brenda Waterman, a former Newport

Harbor Sailor standout who went on to play at UC Irvine.

The team consisted of Jessica Brostek, Cassidy Gayner, Amy

Staudinger, Dailey Wiese, Melissa Mead, Halie Mitchell, Jessica

Peschelt, Laure Kohne, Danielle Seals, Carly Ruiz, Blair Tarnutzer,

Shelly Diefenbach, Catherine Cameron, Megan Louvier, Jessica Bodkin

and Katie Wells.

Junior varsity

The Newport Harbor High junior varsity football team defeated

visiting Woodbridge, 14-7, Friday to win the Sea View League and

finish its season 11-0.

Junior Keith Eldridge had a 65-yard touchdown run to lead the

Sailors against Woodbridge.

Sophomore quarterback Kevin Williams led the team throughout the

season behind the offensive line of Louis Truxton, Matt McCullough,

Eric Ray, Billy Munce, Jamie Ohlhaver, Bryce Jardine and Frank

Muscatelo.

Nick Frazier leads the defense at linebacker.

The coaches are varsity assistants Mike Bargas, Bill Brown, Pat

Paternie and Matt Burns.
