Here are a few of the items the commission will consider tonight.

GRANNY-UNIT ADJUSTMENT

The Planning Commission will consider changing the Santa Ana

Heights Specific Plan to give planning director Patricia Temple

authority to approve second units, known as granny units. Temple

already has the authority over granny units for the rest of the city.

But the Santa Ana Heights Specific Plan gives that authority to the

commission. Planning staff members recommend making the Santa Ana

Heights plan match the rest of the city.

The plan now allows these units within two residential districts:

equestrian and single-family.

The commission was set to consider this issue at its Oct. 21

meeting but postponed the item because Roger Summers, chairman of the

Santa Ana Heights Project Advisory Committee, said the change should

be discussed with residents before any decision is made.

WHAT TO EXPECT

The commission will probably adopt the change.

OFFICE PARKING REQUIREMENTS

The commission will consider changing the ratio that dictates how

much parking space is required for medical and dental offices. The

city’s code now requires these offices to provide a minimum of one

parking space for each 250 square feet of overall floor area.

The commission will consider requiring these offices to provide

one parking space for each 200 square feet of total floor area. The

potential change was spurred by parking shortages at these types of

offices throughout the city, according to the staff report.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Staff members recommend approving the change.
