Article captured essence of great school teacher

Thanks so much for the article, “Rooting for new meaning” in

Tuesday’s Pilot, regarding Jaymi Ropp’s classroom. As a mother with a

child in Ropp’s regular class, I find her to be a stellar teacher.

Not only does she make the kids think, but she talks to the

parents and opens the line of communication to them. To me she is one

of the best teachers that I have had the pleasure of knowing. Thank

you for allowing others to see her in that light.

Water treatment plans good for planet

Re: “Newport seeking to buck an ocean-pollution trend,” Daily

Pilot, Tuesday. I believe it would be best for everyone to have a

sewage-treatment plan for the excess runoff water. We have a similar

situation here on the Balboa Peninsula, where all of the water drains

straight to the bay, and there is no water treatment to keep all the

runoff. People do still wash their cars with harsh fluids. The fluids

that leak off cars go into the bay too. We’ll all have to pay a

higher tax across the board to clean up our water. It’s very

important that we do clean up our water. It’s one of the most

important things we can do for our planet.

Maybe a plot on

‘The OC’ all too real

I enjoyed Gay Sandoval’s proposal for a paternity responsibility

plot twist for “The OC,” and Dan Emory’s treatise on unshared values

in the political arena, (“True twist for ‘The OC’ would be perfect,”

and “Easy answers aren’t best postelection analysis,” Nov. 16). But

for television, scripted fiction is better than reality any day.

On “The OC,” I enjoyed the arrest of real estate tycoon Caleb for

bribing officials, with son-in-law lawyer Sandy promising to defend

him. Who knows what may emerge during the trial? The houses he has

built have pushed up the demand for the planned El Toro airport,

which the writers of “The OC” have not yet picked up on. That’s a

shared value of responsibility everyone can support. I love “The OC.”
