Purplicious rides smooth Wave

The AYSO Region 57 girls-under 14 Purplicious defeated the previously

unbeaten Waves, 3-0, in playoff action Saturday.

Megan Otterbein’s shot found the goal off of Casey Goldberg’s

corner kick to give Purplicious an early lead, while goalie McKenna

Caskey made several saves in the first half to preserve the 1-0 lead.

Otterbein scored again in the third period off consecutive passes

from Kelly Marshall and Bryn Hastings. Rochelle Couchot scored the

final goal off an assist from Hillary Bush, sealing the victory. The

defensive quartet of Jackie Crosson, Samantha Mangione, Shari Mead

and Kelly O’Connor preserved the shutout.

* Purplicious 2, Triple S 0

Megan Otterbein broke loose early in the first quarter to spot the

Purplicious a 1-0 lead. Triple S had several opportunities to score,

but goalie McKenna Caskey made several diving stops. Otterbein scored

again in the third quarter.

In boys under-12 play:

* The Corona del Mar boys under-12 soccer team defeated United

Futbol Club Sunday, with goals scored by Taylor Ross, Colton Gyulay

and Steven Miller.

CdM held on to its undefeated record.

The Corona del Mar boys under-12 soccer club triumphed over

second-place Pacific South No Fear Saturday. Defensive work by

William Morrow, Nick Curci, Brennan Anderson, Brent Gray and Jensen

Rinehart shut down the opponent and kept the game scoreless after 30

minutes of play. CdM rallied in the second half for the win with the

only goal coming on an assist from Colton Gyulay to Jack Gorab.

In boys under-10 play:

* Stingers

Tomo Andry scored four goals off assists from Luke Meleski, while

Tyler Duncan scored the final goal. Tommy Casey, Daemon Kane, Antoine

Bioche and Grant Wysopal led a defensive effort in front of goalie

Greg Williford.

* Trojans vs. Dementos

The offense of Callum Heasley, Joseph Tatchell and Tanner Barrett

broke the game open, while the defense of Nick Heston, Kyle Flagg,

Chris Heston, Charlie Pena, Garrett Byers, Monty Faigen and Brenden

Hefner kept the opposing team at bay.

In girls under-6 play:

* Haley Hopkins, Kaylin Knitowski, Gabby Finear and Jessica Viale

scored for the Flamingos, while Olivia Egly led the defense.

* Dolphins vs. Purple Dragons

Numerous goals were scored by Erika Anderson, Becca Roque, Brooke

Walter and Stephanie Morris. Catherine Trenerry made assists, while

Cameryn Albano played solid defense.
