Corona del Mar High girls volleyball coach Bill Christiansen said he

was surprised his Sea Kings squad are seeded No. 4 in the Southern

California regional bracket of the CIF State Division III

championships, for which pairings were released Sunday.

The Sea Kings (25-5) will play host to La Jolla (29-7) Tuesday at

7 p.m. in a regional quarterfinal.

Particularly upsetting to Christiansen is a section runner-up (Rim

of the World) is a higher seed than his championship squad.

“I think we can beat anybody in the state tournament,” he said.

“Now we just have to beat the three best teams in a row [to reach the

Dec. 4 title match].”

CdM won the CIF Southern Section Division III-A crown Friday

night.
