Colonial Days, a Laguna Beach tradition
Melanie Lewis
At El Morro Elementary School we have enjoyed the many PTA activities
provided thus far. Nov. 22 to 23 our Colonial Days committee, led by
Lynn Gregory, transformed our multipurpose room into a creation of
colonial times. New this year was the many painted murals used for
the backdrops. They included cornhusk dolls, quilting, candle making,
dancing and many others. After 19 years of tradition it is still a
favorite among all those involved.
The kindergarten students and teachers decorated the holiday tree
at the Winter Festival by making ornaments. The tree will be donated
to a needy family in Laguna. They shared milk and cookies and warm
happy feelings with each other. The tree took third place in “Best
Decorated Tree.”
The fifth-grade graduation committee sold poinsettias that are
sure to make many homes beautiful this time of year. They are also
selling a special El Morro blend of coffee, Mr. Bean, available for
purchase throughout the year. If you haven’t tried it, you should, it
is very good and great for gift giving this time of year.
After break, the third- through fifth-grade students will be
practicing for the annual talent show. This year, the show will be
held on Feb. 11 at the high school.
Thank you to all of the volunteers who have made the incredible
activities at El Morro possible. We also thank our talented teaching
staff for its continued efforts in taking the best and making it
better for all of the students.
