Man robs market, flees with cash
A man armed with a handgun robbed the Costa Mesa Tuesday Morning
store Thursday evening, police said.
The man entered the gift shop in the 200 block of E. 17th Street
just before 6 p.m. Thursday, Costa Mesa Police Sgt. Marty Carver
said. He demanded cash from the clerk and lifted his shirt to show a
handgun tucked in his waistband, Carver said.
The clerk complied and the man left with an undisclosed amount of
cash, he said. The man is described as white, in his 20s, 5 feet 7
inches, 135 pounds with short, brown, curly hair and a poor
complexion, Carver said.
Police find drug paraphernalia
Someone sneaked into a church building Thursday night and left
behind evidence of drug use, according to Costa Mesa Police reports.
An employee at St. John the Baptist Church on Baker Street told
police he saw two people jump out of a classroom window at about
11:40 p.m. Thursday, Costa Mesa Police Sgt. Marty Carver said.
Nothing appeared to be taken, but the intruders left behind
marijuana paraphernalia, Carver said.
