CAPPELLA CANTORUM

Cappella Cantorum, the young adult choir of St. John Vianney

Chapel, is beginning its fifth year. The choir is open to students in

grades six through 12. It provides active faith participation for

teens during their high school years. Participation includes singing

at mass regularly and at special events. Rehearsals are from 11 a.m.

to 1 p.m. Saturdays in the Chapel at 314 Marine Ave., Balboa Island.

ADVENT MONASTIC DAY

Abbot Francis Benedict, O.S.B., from St. Andrew’s Abbey in

Valyermo will lead an Advent Monastic Day from 8:30 a.m. 3 p.m. Dec.

4 at Our Lady Queen of Angels, 2046 Mar Vista Drive, Newport Beach.

The event will include a Mass, discussions and meditation. There is

no charge, but participants are asked to bring salad, cheese and

crackers, bread and butter, or dessert to share for lunch. For

CHRISTMAS EVE SERVICES WITH ORCHESTRA

The St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church Sanctuary Choir and Orchestra

will participate in four services at 5, 7, 9 and 11 p.m. on Dec. 24.

The church’s Children’s Choirs will sing at 5 and 7 p.m. The church

BAHAI FIRESIDES

Members of the Bahai faith hold informal public discussions on

spiritual topics at 11:30 a.m. the last Sunday of the month. The

talks include brunch or dinner. Also, interfaith devotional meetings

ZEN 101

The Zen Center of Orange County offers an introduction to Zen

A SPIRITUAL JOURNEY

A 26-lesson study on the life of Jesus Christ titled “Journey to

The Adult Faith Formation at Our Lady Queen of Angels Church in

MEDITATION LESSONS

A free lectio divina meditation group meeting is held at 7:10 a.m.

Tuesdays at Our Lady Queen of Angels, 2046 Mar Vista Drive, Newport

Beach. Lectio is a style of meditation that includes using scripture

or a special reading as a stimulus. The Christian Meditation Group

meets from 7:30 to 9 p.m. every Wednesday at the center. The format

includes two periods of meditation with some instruction on how to

SHABBAT SERVICES

Temple Bat Yahm in Newport Beach has a new schedule for weekly

Shabbat services. On the first and third Fridays of the month,

services will begin at 6 p.m. The third Friday is a catered Shabbat

dinner of chicken, baked potato, salad, challah and wine after

services. The cost will be $12 for adults and $5 for children. Paid

reservations are required by the Wednesday before the dinner. For the

second, fourth and fifth Fridays, services begin at 8 p.m. All

services are conducted by Rabbi Mark Miller, Rabbi Rayna Gevurtz and
