Former Sailors to play for I-AA title

Newport Harbor High products Jeff Marshall and Alan Saenz helped the

University of Montana earn a 34-13 win over Sam Houston State

Saturday in the semifinals of the NCAA Division I-AA football

playoffs at Montana.

Saenz, a 6-foot-2, 295-pound junior defensive tackle, had two solo

tackles and he also forced a fumble.

Marshall, a 6-5, 275-pound sophomore center who earned second-team

All-Big Sky Conference recognition this seasonl, helped the Grizzlies

avenge a 41-29 road loss to the Bearkats Sept. 18.

Montana (12-1-1), bidding for its fifth I-AA national title, will

face James Madison (12-2) in the championship game Saturday at at

Finley Stadium in Chatanooga, Tenn.

Saturday’s crowd of 23,607 at Montana was a record for a I-AA

semifinal.
