The Caring Touch Awards were established to honor nurse assistants

to patients with Alzheimer’s and other illnesses. Garcia, of Corona,

received one of four top awards and a $1,000 prize.

Winkler, of Anaheim, was among six finalists and received a $200

prize.

Orange County caregivers received eight of the 10 awards.

Scouts collect more food for the hungry

Orange County Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts collected 182,615 pounds

of food to help Second Harvest Food Bank’s efforts to feed the hungry

in Orange County.

The scouts, who have partnered with Second Harvest for the past

three years, gathered 61,839 pounds more than last year during the

weeklong food drive.

About 456,000 county residents are at risk of going hungry each

month, according to Second Harvest Food Bank statistics, and 42% of

those are children.
