Santa Ana Country Club senior stroke-play championship in rainy

conditions Dec. 5 to win by six strokes in his first year of

eligibility.

Oakmont, Pa., and Cypress Point Club in Pebble Beach, Calif.

Noteworthy: Holed a 60-yard sand wedge for an eagle 3 on the par-5

ninth hole in wet conditions to finish the front nine at 2-under 34

in final round of Santa Ana’s 36-hole senior championship. Took a

three-shot lead at the turn and added birdies at the 11th and 12th

holes to further the cushion. Of the eagle, which hit beyond the

front-flag location and rolled into the cup, Veitch said, “It is

never a bad thing to have a large helping of luck” ... Win makes him

eligible to compete in next summer’s Jones Cup along with three

teammates from Santa Ana ... Has won four men’s club titles,

including three straight from 1998-2000, in 18 years as a Santa Ana

member ... Graduated with a degree in public relations from USC in

1976 after transferring before his sophomore year from the University

of New Mexico ... Played multiple sports growing up ... Works in
