Newport Beach seeking input on trees
A meeting is being held Jan. 18 for the public to provide input about
special trees in the city.
The city’s goal is to retain special trees in the city that are
recognized as landmarks, have been dedicated, or are neighborhood
trees -- trees that have gained historical significance and or
contribute to or give character to a location or to an entire
neighborhood.
Property owners, residents, homeowners or community associations
that have an interest in nominating a tree for inclusion as a
“special tree” should fill out a form that can be downloaded from the
website www.city.newport-beach.ca.us.
The form should be received by the city staff no later than Jan.
10. A photo of the nominated tree should also be included with the
form.
The Parks, Beaches and Recreation commission has appointed a
special tree committee to review the special tree list and make
recommendations to the City Council.
Landmark trees are identified as individual special trees that
posses historical significance by virtue of size, age, location or
species.
Dedicated trees are special trees donated for, or in memory of,
specific individuals or organizations.
Neighborhood trees are special trees that by their unusual size,
number, or location lend a special character to a residential,
commercial or business area.
