Anteaters record first win

The UC Irvine women’s basketball team rallied from a 20-point

first-half deficit to defeat nonconference visitor University of San

Diego, 86-81, and collect its first victory of the season Sunday.

Melissa Jacob led five Anteaters in double figures with 18 points,

while Lauren Yadon, Ashley Biggins and Angie Ned added 15 apiece.

USD (5-8) led, 45-32, at halftime, but UCI (1-9) opened the second

half with a 17-7 run, fueled by nine points from Ned, who sat out the

first half after returning Sunday morning from Louisiana, where she

attended her grandmother’s funeral.

The 86 points was a season-high for the Anteaters, who committed

just nine turnovers, less than half their average.
