Smith, Ensign share top league accolades

Corona del Mar High seniors Jordan Smith and Lindsey Ensign have been

named Pacific Coast League Co-Most Valuable Players by the circuit’s

girls volleyball coaches, highlighting seven CdM all-league honorees.

Senior Breanne Ogden joins Jordan and Ensign as a first-team

selection while seniors Traci Lawson, Britta Nielsen and Erica Solis,

as well as sophomore Kelly Christian are second-team picks.

The Sea Kings won the Pacific Coast League and CIF Southern

Section Division III-A championships, advanced to the Southern

California regional semifinals of the CIF State Division III

championships this year and finished 27-6.

Smith, an outside hitter headed to UCLA, led CdM with 436 digs and

was second with 345 kills. The 6-foot standout had at least 10 kills

in 17 matches, which tied for tops on the team. Smith was a

first-team all-league performer as a junior and a sophomore, as well.

Ensign, 6-0 a middle blocker, led the Sea Kings with 365 kills and

74 blocks. She was second with 29 service aces and 309 digs. Ensign

matched Smith with 17 double-digit kill matches. Her 25 kills against

Tesoro were a season-high. She was a first-team all-league selection

last year.

Ogden, a defensive specialist who will play for the University of

San Diego next fall, was third with 275 digs. She posted 12 matches

with 10 or more digs, including 20 against University of San Diego

High in the state regional semifinals.

Lawson led the Sea Kings with 545 assists and 35 service aces. The

5-8 setter distributed a season-high 27 assists against Laguna Beach,

among nine matches in which she produced 20 or more assists.

Nelson was third on the team with 154 kills and fourth with 224

digs. The 5-10 outside hitter had four matches with 10 or more kills and had a season-high 23 digs against Laguna Beach.

Solis was third with 30 blocks. The 5-11 middle blocker posted

five blocks against Edison and recorded nine kills in the season

opener against Huntington Beach. Christian was a versatile weapon for

the Sea Kings. The 5-10 opposite was second with 350 assists, third

with 28 service aces and fourth with 119 kills.
