El Morro school offers aid to tsunami victims

El Morro Elementary School’s student council is assisting with

disaster relief efforts for the tsunami victims by selling pencils at

lunch and donating all proceeds to UNICEF. The students chose UNICEF

because the charity specifically helps children.

Checks and money orders made out to: US Funds for UNICEF --

Tsunami victims, are also being accepted in the office, 8681 N. Coast

Laguna students get AP Scholarship awards

Fifty-six students at Laguna Beach High School have received an AP

Scholarship by the College Board for their achievement on the

college-level Advance Placement exams.

Students Michael Codini, Jeremy Graves, Grant Hofmeister, Thomas

Koch and Marisa Reisman qualified for both the National AP Scholar

Award and the AP Scholars with Distinction Award.

Madeline Bell, Thomas Combs, Elliot Conn, Joy Henderson, Taylor

King, Addison Krauze and Stephanie Taylor qualified for the AP

Scholars with Distinction Award.

Students Christine Alger, Christopher Foes, Joanna Golofit, Dania

Gottschalk, Rebecca Johnson, Ivan Kovacevic, Katelyn Massey, Correy

Miller, Aja Roley and Will Sherman qualified for the AP Scholarship

with Honor award.

Twenty-nine students qualified for the AP Scholar Award. Of this

year’s award recipients, 13 are sophomores or juniors.

Laguna teacher delves into world politics

Laguna Beach High School instructor Jonathan Todd teaches a Model

United Nations class for 42 students. The class is designed to help

students better understand the complexities of world politics.

The students compete in regional and national debate conferences.

St. Catherine of Siena to hold open house

Kindergarten Information Night for parents with children entering

Kindergarten September 2005 will be at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 13. It’s an

opportunity to learn about the curriculum and the readiness screening

process and meet the teacher. Make a reservation to attend by calling

The school’s second annual open house to see the classrooms and

meet the teachers is scheduled from 10 a.m. to noon Jan. 30.

The staff wants to congratulate the following seventh-grade

students for achieving honor roll the first trimester, which is a 3.0

GPA or higher: M. Carlson, B. Ferguson, K. McNutt, C. Pryor, A.

Radusovsky, T. Ridley, M. Rios, N. Russell and A. Sikes. High honor

roll, a 3.5 GPA or higher was achieved by: M. Brown, I. Contorelli,
