Here are some of the items that Council plans to discuss at Monday’s

City Council meeting:

STREET IMPROVEMENTS

The City Council is petitioning the Orange County Transportation

Authority to participate in a surface street improvement allocation

system known as the Combined Transportation Funding Program.

Huntington Beach officials are asking for assistance on 11 city

streets and hope to receive matching grant money from the

transportation authority. The city would then be the lead agency

overseeing the repairs.

According to the transportation authority’s web site, the city

currently has four projects worth a combined $1.2 million in the

program.

WHAT TO EXPECT

It’s unclear exactly how many of the projects will be approved by

the transportation authority. The city is asking for help with the

following streets: Bolsa Chica Street, from Oahu Drive to Warner

Avenue, from Rancho Road to McFadden Avenue and from McFadden Avenue

to Oahu Drive; Goldenwest Street from McFadden Avenue to Laurelhurst

Drive and Laurelhurst Drive to Warner Avenue; Adams Avenue from

Sutton Lane to Magnolia Street and from the city limits to Sutton

Lane; Atlanta Avenue from Huntington Street to Delaware Street; the

intersection of Brookhurst Street and Pacific Coast Highway; and the

intersections of Beach Boulevard at Talbert and Heil avenues.

MILITARY LEAVE

The council will be asked to extend benefits and partially paid

absences for city employees who were called to serve on active

military duty, mostly as a result of the invasion of Iraq.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Since the item is on the consent agenda, and the policy has been

in place for some time, it seems likely to be approved. Money for the

military leave has already been allocated in this year’s budget, and

there will not be any impact to the general fund.
