Local hoopsters ranked in CIF-Southern Section polls

Five local prep basketball teams have made their way into the

CIF-Southern Section polls this week.

The polls for boys’ and girls’ basketball, boys’ and girls’ soccer

and girls’ water polo, were released Tuesday by the Southern Section

office in Los Alamitos.

In boys’ basketball, Sunset League co-leader Edison came in at No.

13 in the Division II-AA poll, which was headed by Villa Park. Two of

Edison’s Sunset League foes, Los Alamitos and Esperanza, were ranked

ninth and 16th, respectively, in Division I-AA.

Edison defeated Esperanza on Jan. 12, and played Los Alamitos on

Wednesday. In the Division III-AA poll, Ocean View was ranked No. 13.

In girls’ basketball, Marina, Edison and Huntington Beach all

graced the various polls.

Marina, which got off to a 3-0 start in the Sunset League, entered

this week ranked No. 16 in Division I-A, a poll led by top-ranked

Ventura.

Edison, meanwhile, was ranked fourth in Division II-AA, where

Huntington Beach earned the No. 15 slot. Troy is ranked No. 1 in

Division II-AA.
