Two Huntington Beach girls escaped from a man who tried to grab one

of them and force her into his car in the 18400 block of Goodwin Lane

at 4:35 p.m. Jan. 13, police said.

“Apparently this guy snuck up on the girls and grabbed one of them

by the ankle,” said Sgt. Mike Kelly of the Huntington Beach Police

Department.

The girls, ages 7 and 9, made a commotion and the man left,

driving away in a red car described as either a Jaguar or a Toyota,

police said. The girls ran away and reported the incident to their

mother, police said. After searching, police officers were unable to

find the suspect, police said.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic man between 50 and 60 years

old, 5 feet, 9 inches, 190 pounds, with thin black hair combed over

and wearing a black hat and red shirt.

Two pedestrians were in critical condition this week after being

struck by a car on Bolsa Chica Street south of Warner Avenue at 9:47

p.m. Friday.

Arthur David Luque, 52, and Joy Lynn Luque, 46, both of Huntington

Beach, were hit while crossing the street, police said.

The driver of the car, Corey Scott Ulrich, 31, of Huntington Beach, was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving and causing an

injury accident, police said.

Both pedestrians suffered head trauma and Joy Luque’s leg was

broken, police said. They were transported to Long Beach Memorial

Medical Center where they were listed in critical condition.

Arthur Luque said on Tuesday that both he and his wife were

recovering. Luque said he also suffered back problems and memory loss

as a result of the accident.

Ulrich was uninjured and was not hospitalized, police said.

Two Huntington Beach police recruits will be sworn in as police

officers at the Feb. 7 graduation from the Orange County Sheriff’s

Academy in Anaheim, said Sgt. Mike Kelly of the Huntington Beach

Police Department. Michael Walters and Francisco Jimenez will soon

begin field training in Huntington Beach.
