“Flavors of Orange County” unfolds Sunday on behalf of the American

Liver Foundation.

Hosted by chef Alan Greely of the Golden Truffle and chef Josef

Lagader of the Balboa Bay Club & Resort, a who’s-who lineup of Orange

County culinary talent will provide the ultimate taste of the region.

It’s the second annual “flavors” event, this year welcoming 21

Orange County chefs at the Balboa Bay Club & Resort.

Each chef will prepare and serve a five-course dinner for a table

of 12 guests. For more information, call (949) 464-2034.

The giant Pacific Life is planning its annual nonprofit giveaway

for Jan. 25.

Some 200 organizations serving Orange County will receive grants

totaling $3.3 million through the Pacific Life Foundation. Organizers

will hold a reception at 5 p.m., hosted by Pacific Life chairman and

Chief Executive Tom Sutton and Foundation President Bob Haskell.

Special recognition will be paid to Roger Payne, a whale

researcher who first discovered the “songs” of the humpback whale.

Contact Tennyson Oyler at (949) 219-3248 for more information.

The good doctor, Laura Schlessinger, will be in the house today

for a dinner at the Balboa Bay Club & Resort.

Schlessinger is the guest of Toby’s House, an Orange County home

for pregnant women in crisis, and their children.

Organizers are expecting a sold-out dinner crowd that will raise

needed funds for pregnant women with no place to go, no medical care

to speak of, and no options.

For information on Toby’s House, call (949) 364-6674.

Coming up, Childhelp USA has some major events on the social

calendar.

March 11 will be the date of a Spring Fashion Show and luncheon at

the Hyatt Huntington Beach. South Coast Plaza will produce the

fashion show, with Patty McDonald and Debbie Trout handling the

overall chairmanship of the event.

Then, on April 6, Childhelp USA will be recognized by a U.S.

Senate resolution establishing “The National Day of Hope,” designed

to raise awareness about child abuse and neglect.

Finally, May 4, the organization will host its annual golf

tournament at Pelican Hill Golf Club, Newport Coast. Patti and Jim

Edwards and Eileen and Rich Saul will chair the day on the greens.

Organizers are aiming high, hoping to raise more than $200,000 at

the tournament.

For more information on any Childhelp event, call Nancy Whitlock

at (949) 548-4228.

* THE CROWD appears Thursdays and Saturdays.
