LOCA offers workshop

Laguna Outreach Community Art Escapes program is offering a three

part watercolor workshop at 2 p.m., which started Jan. 14 and

continues Jan. 21 and 28, featuring nationally known artist,

exhibitor and teacher Roger Folk. The class at the Women’s Club, 286

St. Anne’s Drive, is suitable for all artistic levels and costs $30.

Stone carving workshop offered

Laguna College of Art and Design is offering a stone carving

winter workshop on Saturdays through March 10. The workshop is taught

by master stone carver Marvin Johnson. No prior experience is

necessary. The 10-week series started Jan. 15 and cost $300 with two

Laguna Beach Live! concert Saturday

Laguna Beach Live! is sponsoring the “Generations of Jazz” concert

8 p.m. Saturday, featuring saxophone legend Charles McPherson, his

son Chuck on drums, father and son guitarists Dave and Larry Koonse

and the McPherson Quartet. The concert is at Laguna Beach High

School’s Artists’ Theatre, 625 Park Ave. Tickets are $30/$25 reserved

Festival application deadline is Feb. 28

Artists who want to exhibit in this summer’s Festival of Arts are

invited to submit slides of their best work and complete an

College will exhibit ‘Speculative Terrain’

Laguna College of Art and Design is having an opening reception

for a new exhibit, “Speculative Terrain,” a show of contemporary

Southern California landscape imagery, from 7 to 9 p.m. Feb. 3. The

show will run through March 12.

“Speculative Terrain” shows recent views from San Diego to Santa

Barbara, capturing foothills, mountains and beaches.

‘Art for Aids IV’ set for Feb. 5

“Art for AIDS IV: An Evening with Cybill Shepherd” an event

benefiting AIDS Services Foundation Orange County and Laguna Art

Museum will be on Feb. 5 in the pacific Ballroom at The St. Regis

Monarch Beach Resort and Spa in Dana Point.

Shepherd will take center stage in the role of the evening’s

celebrity guest and performer. The evening begins at 5:30 p.m. with

cocktails, a dinner buffet and a silent auction of artwork and

donated celebrity items. The live auction starts at 8:30 p.m.

followed by Shepherd’s performance and a live band.

Tickets are $285, $500 or $1,000. Sponsorships are $10,000 and

CAP will bring in the roaring ‘20s

Community Art Project is having a roaring ‘20s themed fundraiser

and live art auction at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 26 at Wells Fargo Bank, 260

Ocean Ave.

“A Night at the Bank” will offer hot live jazz, a cool martini bar

and premium wines with a Prohibition-era theme. Laguna Beach Arts

Commissioners Mike Tauber and Pat Kollenda will auction original

works of art live with works by renowned artists Ken Auster, Cheryl

Eckstrom and Tom Swimm available.

Monies raised will help fund Community Art Project’s new program,

“Beauty Beyond Downtown,” which focuses on enhancing public art in

other areas of Laguna Beach. Tickets are $65 per person. For tickets

Three-day festival honors Django Reinhardt

Djangofest LA, a three-day festival celebrating the music and

spirit of Django Reinhardt, will bring renowned musical ensembles

from around the globe to perform “Hot Gypsy Jazz” Feb. 25, 26 and 27

at the Festival of Arts Forum Theater, 650 Laguna Canyon Road.

Djangofest LA will feature performances by Angelo Debarre, John

Jorgenson Quintet, Robin Nolan Trio, Pearl Django, The Rhythm

Brothers, Hot Club of San Diego, Trio Gonzalo, Club Django and

Marcelo Damon and Nomad Jazz.

The festival will also feature workshops. Workshops are $50 and
