UCI swimmers sweep Tritons

The UC Irvine men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams each

defeated the UC San Diego Tritons Sunday at the Anteater Aquatics

Complex. The women won, 190-105, while the men won, 168-127.

In an extremely fast dual meet, 24 meet records were broken and

six UCI records fell as well.

UCI’s 200-yard medley relay team of freshman Eddie Erazo,

sophomore Dan Simonsen, freshman Randall Tom and sophomore Eric

Reilly broke a 13-year-old UCI record with a time of 1 minute, 31.55

seconds.

Tom broke a 15-year-old UCI record in the 100 butterfly (48.87)

and also won the 200 fly in a meet-record 1:48.97.

Junior diver Anton Slobounov broke the UCI record in the one-meter

competition with a score of 339.38 and also won the three-meter

competition with a meet record of 337.88.

Simonsen won both the 100 (56.86) and the 200 breaststroke (56.86

and 2:07.86, respectively), setting a meet record in the shorter

event.

Erazo set meet records in both the 100 (50.35) and 200 backstroke

(50.35 and 1:50.83, respectively), while Reilly broke meet records in

the 50 and 100 freestyle (21.05 and 45.99, respectively).

On the women’s side, junior diver Franny Brittle set a UCI record

in the three-meter competition and qualified for the NCAA Regionals

with a score of 313.50.

Freshman Jackie Jones won the one-meter diving with a UCI-record

score of 288.75.

Freshman Chelsea Nagata broke the UCI record in the 100 butterly

(55.47) and won the 50 free (23.97).

Junior Lara Bjargardottir won the 200 free (1:53.46) and set meet

records in the 200 breaststroke (2:16.73) and the 200 individual

medley (2:05.51). Kim Do won the 100 and the 200 back (57.60 and

2:05.91, respectively), while Alexis Sheridan won both the 500 and

1,000 free.
