Representatives from Fremont Investment & Loan financial services

company spent their lunch hours Wednesday serving food and

distributing goods at Someone Cares Soup Kitchen in Costa Mesa.

The volunteers, primarily Orange County branch managers,

distributed 200 blankets and jackets, 30 backpacks and 45 books to

low-income and homeless visitors.

The event was set up through Canning Hunger, a Brea-based

nonprofit organization that was founded 12 years ago by brothers

Rocky and Norm Whan.

Rocky Whan, on hand at the event, said his organization develops

ways to get community members and local businesses involved in

collecting and distributing food.

Fremont’s Laguna Woods branch manager Wendy Zimmerman said she

wanted members of her company to get hands-on experience.

“It’s important to give back to the community,” she said.

“And it’s nice to see where our donation funds are going.”
