Plenty on horizon at El Morro

After a very wet month we head into February and March looking out to

the beautiful ocean that we are so fortunate to see everyday.

With school back in session after the winter break, January

offered Art Masters, Class Act, field trips and the exciting regular

weekly events of library, computers and music.

Two of our students, Carson Cushing and Elijah Meisse,

kindergarteners in Mrs. Sjule’s class, participated among others in

the PTA Reflections Art Contest. Their art was selected to be shown

at the Guggenheim Gallery in the Moulton Fine Arts Center of Chapman

University. Congratulations to both of them and to all who

participated in the contest!

Our second session of after school clubs has started and offers a

diversity of classes to our students. Bookworms, a reading group,

continues to be overbooked. We were able to add a second class,

offered each week by Mrs. Cameron. We are also offering in the next

session a third class of Bookworms. It is in our best interest for

the kids to maintain their enthusiastic interest in reading. We hope

to satisfy every child’s reading needs. The library is also open for

enjoyment during lunchtime as well.

The talent show is right around the corner. An amazing pool of

talent by our third-, fourth- and fifth-grade students, directed by

Chris Barton and Lisa Mansour, will impress each of you on Feb. 11 at

the high school’s Artists Theatre. It is a great night for our El

Morro families to attend and cheer on our fellow students.

Beginning Feb. 1, the PTA will sponsor the lunchtime activity

program. It is offered to all first- through fifth-grade students

every Tuesday and Thursday, pending the rain. The students can choose

to participate in a weekly craft, organized sport event, board

games/puzzles, library reading or free play during their recess time

after they are dismissed from the lunch benches. We hope to offer the

students a fun way of joining other students in a pleasant variety of

activities.

The beginning of March brings Read Across America, an interactive

day spent with community and parent volunteers reading to our

students in celebration of Dr. Seuss and his love of reading.

The jog-a-thon will be held on March 18, a minimum day for all,

and is sure to be fun and exciting. This is our biggest PTA

fundraiser of the year.

We thank all of the parents who volunteer to bring together all of

the extracurricular activities that are provided to the students at

El Morro.
