City to host home

The city of Newport Beach will hold a home buyer information

workshop from 10 a.m. to noon today in the City Council chambers at

Newport Beach City Hall, 3300 Newport Blvd. The workshop will cover a

new program that assists prospective home buyers with a down payment

and closing costs and locks in the home price.

The public lease-purchase program is sponsored by the Orange

County Housing and Finance Agency, which uses bonds to buy homes for

qualifying applicants, who then make monthly payments on the

mortgage, in effect leasing the home from the agency. After at least

12 months, the home buyer can take over the lease or obtain new

financing.
