the mayor

The 24th annual Mayor’s Dinner will be hosted by Speak Up Newport

on Thursday. Mayor Steve Bromberg will present his State of the City

address and Maj. Gen. Timothy E. Donovan, commanding officer of Camp

Pendleton, will be the featured guest.

The event will begin at 6 p.m. at the Sutton Place Hotel, 4500

Mac- Arthur Blvd., Newport Beach. Information: (949) 673-1191.

A chance to buy a book

The Friends of the Newport Beach Library will hold a used book

sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., or until books are gone, Saturday at the

Newport Beach Central Library, 1000 Avocado Ave., Newport Beach.

The sale is open to the public, and all books will be priced at $1

sculptures on display

A collection of butterfly sculptures painted by more than 50 local

artists will be on display at 10 a.m. Saturday at Roger’s Gardens in

Corona del Mar.

Visitors can walk through the outdoor property and meet the

artists from 1:30 to 3 p.m.

The butterflies will be auctioned off at a March 4 event. For more
