Newport Beach’s Fletcher Jones Motorcars reported last week that

the dealership in 2004 sold 8,017 vehicles, a number that a

Mercedes-Benz USA spokeswoman confirmed was an American record for

the company.

The dealership raked in $533 million in sales in 2004, general

manager Garth Blumenthal said. The number was an 8% gain from 2003

figures.

Newport company names new V.P.

Mark F. Werny was named vice president and account executive of

SM&A;, a proposal services company based in Newport Beach. The company

announced the appointment on Tuesday.

Wenry has a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the

University of Delaware’s College of Business and Economics. Before

being hired by SM&A;, he served as vice president of sales for

GenuOne, a Boston firm that produces product-tracking software.

Harvard grad named to board

Pacific Life, a Newport Beach insurance company, announced

Wednesday that Mariann Byerwalter had been elected to the board of

directors of Pacific Mutual Holding Co., Pacific Life’s parent

company and Pacific LifeCorp, the insurance firm’s stock holding.

Byerwalter earned a master’s degree in business administration

from Harvard Business School in 1984. She serves on other corporate

boards and is a trustee at Stanford University.
