A night of gala for parents

Hawes Elementary School parents will hold Parent Gala Night, to raise

money for school programs, at 6 p.m. Feb. 25 at the Hilton Waterfront

Beach Resort, 21100 Pacific Coast Highway.

Parents Les Akers and Patty Whitlock came up with the idea of a

fundraising night for community members to enjoy a sit-down dinner,

live entertainment, silent and live auction and opportunity drawing

with all proceeds going to the school.

The event, which costs $70 per person, will hopefully raise money

for a new computer lab, said Principal Karen Ayres.

“We’re really focusing on technology,” Ayres said.

Hawes Elementary holds various fundraisers throughout the year,

said Elizabeth Clarke, the parent of two children who attend Hawes.

The upcoming gala is an opportunity to raise money for the school and

have fun at the same time, Clarke said.

“You get to have a night of dancing and fun and everything you bid

on goes right back to our school, right back to our kids,” Clarke

said.
