Marina ranked eighth in hoops

Entering the final week of the regular season on a roll, the Marina

High girls’ basketball team has continued to climb up the ladder in

the CIF Southern Section Division I-A rankings, coming in this week

at No. 8.

Rankings in girls’ and boys’ basketball, girls’ and boys’ soccer

and girls’ water polo, were released Monday by the Southern Section

office in Los Alamitos.

Topping Marina’s division was No. 1 Canyon Springs.

The Lady Vikings were one of three local girls’ basketball teams

to again earn a ranking.

Edison held on to the No. 5 slot in the Division II-AA poll, which

again is headed by the Troy Warriors.

In the Division III-AA poll, which continues to be led by Santa

Margarita, Ocean View comes in at No. 14.

On the boys’ side of the court, two local teams, Edison and Ocean

View, are ranked in their respective divisions.

Edison is No. 11 in a Division II-AA poll led by Dominguez and

Ocean View is in a tie with Atascadero for the No. 9 ranking in

Division III-AA.

The Division III-AA poll’s top spot is shared by Santa Margarita

and Artesia.

In the girls’ Division I soccer poll, Edison is ranked ninth.

Topping that list is the Chargers’ Sunset League foe, Los Alamitos.

Another league rival, Esperanza, is ranked seventh.

In the boys’ Division I soccer rankings, Huntington Beach is No.

8. Damien heads the Division I poll.
