Local nominated as McDonald’s All-Star
Marina High’s Jeff DeLaunay is among 91 Southern California high
school basketball players to be nominated for consideration to the
2005 McDonald’s All American High School Basketball Team.
The 6-foot-6 senior forward is among the top 1,500 male prep
basketball players in the nation who are nominated for “excelling on
and off the basketball court.”
DeLaunay will be considered for one of the 24 finalist positions
on the men’s 2005 McDonald’s All American Team.
This year’s men’s game will be played March 30, at the University
of Notre Dame’s Joyce Center in South Bend, Ind., and will be
broadcast live in prime time on ESPN.
McDonald’s All American Team men’s alumni include Michael Jordan,
Magic Johnson, Kevin Garnett (Minnesota Timberwolves), LeBron James
(Cleveland Cavaliers) and Carmelo Anthony (Denver Nuggets).
Oilers to hold celebration
The Huntington Beach High athletic department will host its
“Centennial Celebration of Athletics at Huntington Beach High School”
during a June 10 fundraising event.
The festivities will take place between 6 p.m. and midnight at the
Hilton Waterfront Beach Resort. A donation of $75 per person includes
dinner and dancing, a slide show, raffle and silent auction.
Invitations to the event are extended to anyone who has
participated or contributed to the school’s athletic history in any
form, current and former athletes, Girls Athletic Assn. members,
booster club members, supporters and donors.
The celebration committee is seeking names, addresses and phone
numbers of anyone interested in attending. It also is seeking old
photographs, trophies, plaques and any other memorabilia for display.
