Here are some items the City Council will discuss at Tuesday’s
meeting.
RV ORDINANCE
After months of anticipation, Police Chief Ken Small is submitting
an RV ordinance to the City Council.
To counter complaints from residents about RV parking on city
streets, Small is asking the council to restrict the length of time
RVs can be left on the public right-of-way.
Under the new ordinance, RV owners are allowed eight 24-hour
periods a month to park in front, or close to their residence.
About a quarter of the RVs parked in Huntington Beach are from out
of the city, Small said, while another 25% are parked a notable
distance from the owner’s home. Small said he hopes the ordinance
with make RV owners more accountable about where they park.
WHAT TO EXPECT
It’s hard to say how the council will go on this law, which has
been in the works for some time. Expect a high turnout on this issue,
both from homeowners who are tired of looking at RVs parked in front
of their homes, and RV owners who oppose restrictions.
YOUTH SHELTER
The council will formally end its contract with charity group
Volunteers of America to run the Huntington Beach Youth Shelter. The
move comes after Community Services Director Jim Engle learned that
the group was no longer accepting teens into the shelter.
WHAT TO EXPECT
The item is on the consent agenda and is likely to pass. After the
group’s contract is ended, Engle will begin to look for a new
nonprofit to operate the shelter.
WATER PIPELINE
After settling a lawsuit with the Southern California Water Co.,
the city must now formally grant the agency a franchise agreement to
build a water pipeline along the length of the southbound lane of
Bolsa Chica Ave.
The new pipeline will serve a proposed residential development on
the upper mesa of the Bolsa Chica.
WHAT TO EXPECT
The franchise agreement is part of the city’s settlement with the
water company and will likely be approved by the council.
