OCC team wins culinary competition

The Orange Coast College culinary arts team won its second

straight Western Region Student Hot Food Competition championship

Feb. 19 in Sacramento.

Each five-member team prepared a four-course meal that was judged

by professional chefs from the American Culinary Federation.

The OCC team’s menu included sauteed golden trout, a beet sampler

salad and an entree featuring a nut-crusted chicken breast with

braised cabbage and sauteed yams.

The team advances to the national culinary finals, scheduled for

July 30 to Aug. 3 in San Antonio, Texas.

UC Irvine’s Bryant elected as fellow

UC Irvine Dean of Biological Sciences Susan Bryant has been

elected a 2005 Association for Women in Science fellow.

A researcher in limb regeneration, Bryant was recognized Monday

during a reception in Washington, D.C. Fellows are selected on the

basis of their contributions to promoting women in science.

Bryant has been dean since 2000 and has led the effort to attract

more women for tenure-track positions at the university.
