Learning mission

The Laguna Beach Coastline Pilot went to El Morro Elementary School

and asked students in Paula Pitts’ third-grade class, touring the

fourth-grade project on California missions, ‘What have you learned

about the missions?’

“Some are like Christian churches and some are Catholic too.

People used to live in them until they could build their own houses.”

JESSIE BUNTING, 8

“They were built to teach Native Americans religion. San Juan

Capistrano was called the great stone church and only one-quarter of

it stands today.”

CAMERON RAND-LUBY, 8

“So there could be churches for peace and for the Indians to learn

about religion.”

JACK WYETT, 8
