Police looking for driver in hit-and-run

Newport Beach police are looking for anyone who witnessed a

hit-and-run accident that left a woman seriously injured late Friday

on West Coast Highway.

Police say Lake Forest resident Stacy Ryan-Helmick, 37, was

crossing the street at Tustin Avenue in front of Rodman’s restaurant

when she was struck by an SUV. The car kept driving east on Coast

Highway without stopping, police said.

Ryan-Helmick, a mother of two, was taken to Western Medical Center

in Santa Ana where she was treated for serious head and facial

injuries, police said.

Witnesses at the scene described the car as a black Cadillac

Escalade with dark tinted windows.

Police are seeking the car or anyone with additional information.

Costa Mesa man held for indecent exposure

Costa Mesa police arrested a 41-year-old man Tuesday after they

say he exposed himself to a 16-year-old girl.

Velquin Medina-Nolasco of Costa Mesa was charged with indecent

exposure and child annoyance, Sgt. Marty Carver said.

The girl called police at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday to report that a man

had exposed himself as she walked near Placentia Avenue and 17th

Street, Carver said. When police arrived at the scene they found

Medina-Nolasco sitting in his car and the girl positively identified

him.

He is being held at the Costa Mesa city jail in lieu of $35,000

bail including a $15,000 warrant for forgery.
