Senior Alex Pisarski struck out six, walked one and scattered eight

hits in going the distance to help the host Costa Mesa High baseball

team down Calvary Chapel of Santa Ana, 7-1, in a Costa Mesa bracket

semifinal of the Newport Elks tournament Thursday.

Pisarski improved to 2-0 in only second varsity start to help Mesa

(4-0) reach Saturday’s final against Tustin at 2 p.m. at Mater Dei

High.

The Mustangs blew the game open with a five-run third inning to

build a 5-1 lead.

Senior Jeff Waldron’s two-run double was one of six hits in seven

Mustang at-bats in the inning. Waldron also scored a run.

Dylan Hunter finished 2 for 3 with two runs scored and an RBI

while Alex Dominguez went 2 for 3 with two singles. Pisarski singled

twice and added an RBI for the Mustangs, who didn’t commit an error

and finished with 10 hits.

Pisarski, who fanned 10 in five innings to earn his first varsity

win in Mesa’s 5-0 victory over Buena Park Friday, quelled a Calvary

(3-1) threat in the fourth when he struck out two with the bases

loaded to end the inning.
