Re: Should the Music in the Park program be revised to avoid

complaints by neighbors?

The article “Music in the Park,” missed the boat on the neighbors’

concerns for those living near Bluebird Park. Noise is the least of

the main problems.

Having resided on Cress Street for the past 16 years, the concerts

have grown from a small neighborhood get-together, where most people

walked to the concert, to having way too many people in one place,

with nowhere to park their cars but in front of your gate, driving or

blocking street corners.

At the very least, the number of concerts should be shortened to

four Sundays per season, or have the other five concerts that are

held at Bluebird Park done at different parks throughout the city.

I’m sure some of the people who drive over our flower beds and

leave their beer cans and trash behind wouldn’t mind returning the

favor.

Please revise the program, give us back some of our peaceful

Sundays.

Council’s stance on nudes embarrasses

Thank you, Gene Cooper for your eloquent letter published March 4!

Has the City Council lost their minds? As a resident artist of Laguna

Beach I am ashamed -- not of the figure -- but of my local

government. They are seeking to squash artistic expression before it

has been given a chance with the City Hall sculpture commission.

I wasn’t actually thinking of submitting a proposal, but now my

mind turns to ideas of a young warrior of the people felling the

overbearing giant of public government -- ooops! Been done. How about

Neptune kneeling by the shore to call to the creatures of the sea-

oh! That’s at the St. Regis. Hello! There are thousands of live nudes

-- practically -- that visit and sunbathe on our beaches annually,

myself included. And the city is worried about a bronze? If God

created us in his image, what could be more beautiful than the human

form?

Shouldn’t “We the People” have a chance to decide?

I am saddened that in this last holdout against bland suburban

sprawl, to where artists have been drawn for almost a century, that

we are not betrayed by the sword but with a kiss.

Naked honesty needed in here

Hallelujah!

It’s way past time for someone to be responsible in reporting “the

closed door meetings and goings on at City Hall.”

People should know.

Many people want to know.

Public input and nudes at City Hall is just one or two of the many

things this city needs. And it will be much better for both!

We already have the rocket ship in the park! The Boy and his Dog.

The Sawdust, the Festival, the Playhouse. We are just beginning our

“Art in Public Places.” Don’t kill it yet.

Don’t put a bag over the statue of Eiler Larsen in front of the

now-dead Pottery Shack just because he might need a shave!

Give us our Michelangelo and our Rodin.

But most of all ... give us openness and honesty in city

government! Then the other good things will follow.
