Laguna man arrested on drug charges
A Laguna Beach man was arrested on the suspicion of possessing
drugs with the intention to sell, in the home where he lived with his
8-year-old son, police said.
Police went to the home of Renzo Gamboa at 2:12 p.m. Friday in the
1400 block of Del Mar Drive to investigate evidence that Gamboa’s car
had been involved in another, unrelated crime, said Sgt. Darin Lenyi.
Officers smelled marijuana in the house, and when they did a
search they found cocaine, psilocybin mushrooms and marijuana, Lenyi
said.
Gamboa was arrested on the suspicion of child endangerment because
the drugs posed a potential health risk to Gamboa’s 8-year-old son,
Lenyi said.
“The cocaine was left in a location where the son could have
gotten into it,” Lenyi said.
Gamboa was also arrested on suspicion of possessing drugs to sell,
due to the large amount of drugs in the house, police said.
“The quantities were so large that it indicated he wasn’t going to
use it all himself, rather he possessed it to sell,” Lenyi said.
Laguna Beach Police make drug arrest
Laguna Police made what they called a major drug arrest during a
routine traffic stop at 2 a.m. Friday on S. Coast Highway at Wesley
Drive, police said.
Police recovered $6,000 in cash in addition to methamphetamine,
cocaine and Viagra, totaling a street value of approximately $23,000,
police said.
Police stopped the car after they saw the vehicle stop at a green
light and noticed the headlight was out and the registration was
expired, police said.
Police performed a field sobriety test after identifying that the
driver had symptoms of chronic drug use, police said. The man
expressed that he did not want police to search his car, police said.
When the vehicle was searched, police found a pill-cutting tool and
plastic bags containing methamphetamine residue, police said.
After searching the trunk, police found a large amount of
individually-packaged, vacuum-sealed bags of methamphetamine and
cocaine, police said. They also said they found hundreds of tablets
of the prescription drug Viagra, methamphetamine pipes, a digital
weight scale and more plastic bags.
The man was arrested on the suspicion of transporting and selling
drugs, and obtaining prescription drugs without a prescription,
police said.
