Treasures behind the Harp

The Harp Inn, an Irish pub on East 17th Street in Costa Mesa, is a

popular gathering spot for friends. Behind the Harp Inn is a group of

stores featuring antiques, hip home accessories, used books, art and

framing, and a cafe.

The Harp Inn and Row of stores are at 130 E. 17th St. (near

Newport Boulevard) in Costa Mesa.

Loyal customers of the Harp Inn enjoy broadcasts of European

sporting events including soccer, rugby, Gaelic football and hurling,

as well as traditional Irish music every second Sunday starting at 3

p.m.

There’s also a premium selection of draft and bottled beers, as

well as Irish coffee with fresh whipped cream. A traditional Irish

breakfast is served all day; it’s a combination of sausage, bacon,

black and white pudding, fried tomato and potato ($9.95).

The menu features 12 appetizers, including zucchini and fries,

Irish tacos with corned beef, spicy chicken fingers and Irish nachos

($2.95 to $6.95); and nine entrees, including corned beef sandwiches,

shepherds pie, bangers and mash (sausages and mashed potatoes), and

fish and chips ($5.95 to $11.95).

The Harp Inn is also available for parties, fundraisers and other

events. Catering and music are available too.

Open 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. Monday through Thursday; 12 p.m. to 2 a.m.

REBUILD AND RESELL

Sarah Whitcomb’s antiques are always in great condition. They’ve

been refurbished by the business’ restoration side.

Sarah Whitcomb is an antique store, as well as an excellent

furniture restoration shop that offers repair, refinishing,

veneering, hand canning and upholstery.

The store carries mostly European and Asian antiques, chandeliers,

sconces and mirrors, as well as beautiful candles, costume jewelry,

linens, pottery and china. There’s also a new shipment of wonderful,

exact-reproduction Windsor chairs from New England, handcrafted with

no nails and no screws.

PICTURE THIS

Since 1991, the Newport Frame Co. has offered quality custom

picture framing. Co-owners Bill and Penny Darling do all their work

on the premises.

They carry thousands of moldings, museum and archival framing, as

well as acid-free mounting for photographs.

A NOOK FOR BOOKS

Co-owners Brad and Nancy Wilson fill the Book Store, open since

1992, with fine used books, as well as art, antiques and

collectibles.

The Book Store carries a wide range of books: history, biography,

first editions, cookbooks and golf books. It’s also known for its

selection of California and the West books. Prices range from about

$10 to the hundreds.

GOING TO THE COUNTRY

Country Inn Garden Cafe features garden patio seating, as well as

an antique store.

It’s known for its breakfast and lunch dining on the patio, as

well as lunches to go.

The breakfast menu items include breakfast sandwiches, pancakes,

French toast, and egg dishes ($3.95 to $8.95).

The lunch menu includes grilled sandwiches, cold sandwiches,

salads, and soup ($5.95 to $9.95).
