Harbor area death remains mysterious

The reason behind the death of a man found floating in Newport

Harbor Thursday is still a mystery, even following an autopsy.

Investigators performed an autopsy Friday on the body of Jeffrey

Allan Brady, 49, supervising deputy coroner Rod Thomas said. The

cause of death wasn’t immediately apparent and further tests will be

performed, he said.

Foul play doesn’t appear to be a factor in Brady’s death,

officials said.

Brady was found floating in the harbor near the 2600 block of West

Coast Highway at about 11:30 a.m. Thursday.

Officials initially said Brady was a resident of Costa Mesa, but

it isn’t clear where he had been living at the time of his death,

Thomas said.

Brady had recently been employed at Larson Shipyard in Newport

Beach, near where his body was found, police said.

Employees there confirmed that he had worked at the shipyard at

one time but declined to comment further.

Brady’s death is still under investigation.
