Sailor goalie commits

Michael Robinson, a senior goalkeeper on Newport Harbor High’s boys

water polo team last fall, has committed to UC Santa Barbara, he

confirmed.

Robinson, a three-year varsity starter, visited the campus in

February and said he was impressed with the program and coaches.

The 6-foot-2 Robinson was named second-team All-CIF Southern

Section Division I after helping the Sailors reach the quarterfinals,

where they lost, 8-6, to Harvard-Westlake to finish 18-11. He made 17

saves in the playoffs, including 10 in a first-round victory over

Mission Viejo.

Robinson also earned first-team All-Sea View League laurels this

season after garnering second-team accolades his junior year.

Robinson competes for Newport’s boys swim team.
