The Corona del Mar High girls swim team earned its second consecutive

victory Saturday night at the CIF relays at Belmont Plaza.

Coach Doug Volding’s Sea Kings won the 200 medley relay in a

school-record time of 1 minute, 50.18 seconds as senior Jordan Anae

(backstroke), sophomore Stephanie Gabert (breaststroke), freshman

Danielle Lavery (butterfly) and junior Ashley Chandler (freestyle)

shaved .17 off the previous school best.

CdM also won the 400 medley relay (4:09.52) as well as the 200

breaststroke relay (2:09.04).

The 400 medley relay consisted of Lavery, junior Tumuaialli Anae,

sophomore Katie Indvik and Gabert.

The 200 backstroke relay was comprised of Tumuaialli Anae,

sophomore Juliana Piggott, junior Alexine Rodenhuis and Gabert.

The 200 backstroke relay of Jordan Anae, junior Jackie Duzac,

sophomore Sarah Hutchison and Chandler finished third in 1:56.33.

The Sea Kings were also third in the 400 free relay, which

included Lavery, Tumuaialli Anae, Jordan Anae and Chandler.

CdM was ninth in the 200 butterfly relay and 12th in the 6 x 50

free relay to finish with 210 team points, 18 better than runner-up

Glendora.

Sapp pacing UCI

* GOLF: UC Irvine freshman Garrett Sapp is tied for fifth

individually and the Anteaters are fifth as a team after the first

day of the two-day Western intercollegiate men’s golf tournament

Monday at Pasatiempo Golf Club in Santa Cruz.

Sapp shot par 70 and 2-over 72 to top the Anteaters, who also

received strong play from freshman Kenny Kim (74-73--147, tied for

20th).

UCI’s team score of 590 is one behind Stanford and eight behind

first-place Oregon.

Tars’ Miller lauded

* BASKETBALL: Senior guard Vanessa Miller was the lone

representative from Newport Harbor High’s girls basketball team

chosen All-Sea View League, garnering first-team accolades by the

league’s coaches.

The 5-foot-6 Miller, a four-year varsity member, led the Sailors,

who finished 11-16 and lost in a CIF Southern Section Division II-AA

wild-card game, with 12.3 points per contest and led the team with 23

three-pointers.

She earned second-team all-league honors as a junior.

Woodbridge juniors Jacqueline Erickson and Bridgette Reyes were

named Co-Players of the Year.
