Campos spins no-hitter

Senior Tiffany Campos struck out six and tossed her first no-hitter

of the season as host Costa Mesa downed rival Estancia, 11-1, in a

Golden West League softball game Wednesday.

Campos improved to 4-3 and received offensive boosts from Venise

Enesi (2 for 4 with a double, three RBIs and run scored) and Janae

Rivera, whose doubles combined to plate five runs in the third for

Mesa (7-5, 2-1 in league). Christy Gregory went 2 for 3 with two runs

scored for Mesa while Allison Wyman scored Estancia’s only run on a

fielder’s choice in the fourth.

CdM tops Laguna

SWIMMING: The Corona del Mar High girls swim team defeated host

Laguna Beach, 114-30, in a Pacific Coast League dual-meet Wednesday.

Freshman Danielle Lavery won the 50-yard freestyle (25.58 seconds)

and 100 free (55.28) for the Sea Kings (2-1, 2-0 in league), both in

CIF qualifying times. Alexine Rodenhuis won the 100 breaststroke in a

personal record in 1:15.44.

Mesa tops rival

* BASEBALL: The Costa Mesa High baseball team defeated visiting

crosstown rival Estancia, 5-2, in a Golden West League showdown

Wednesday at TeWinkle Park.

Junior pitcher Alex Dominguez threw six innings for the Mustangs

(6-3-1, 1-1-1 in league) with nine strikeouts, improving to 2-0.

Senior pitcher Alex Pisarski struck out the side in the seventh.

Sailors swarm Irvine

* BASEBALL: Senior Patrick Keehan was 3 for 4 with one RBI and two

runs scored in Newport Harbor High’s 7-2 Sea View League victory over

host Irvine Wednesday.

In the first three innings, each leadoff batter for the Sailors

(4-7, 1-4 in league) made it on base, with senior Greg Miner, who

finished 1 for 2, hitting a double in the first inning to go along

with two RBIs.

Junior Patrick Tyler was 2 for 3 with two runs scored for the

winners.

Sailors still on top

* SWIMMING: The Newport Harbor High girls and boys swim teams each

advanced to 4-0, 2-0 in the Sea View League after the girls team

defeated Irvine, 95-75, and the boys won, 99-70, Wednesday.

Junior Dan Furman led the Sailors with a win in the 50-yard

freestyle (22.23) and the 100 free (49.00). Max Joseph was a

double-winner in the 100 butterfly with 57.01, and the 200 individual

medley with 2:06.11. Clay Jorth finished first in the 200 free

(1:51.42), and the 500 free (5:02.70).

The boys also took first in the 200 and 400 medley relay.

The Sailor girls had three double-winners, including Kally Lucas,

Kayley Oka, and Leah Robertson.

Eagle girls push along

* SWIMMING: The Estancia girls swim team finished with eight

first-place finishes in its 98-72 Golden West League victory over

host Costa Mesa Wednesday, while the boys fell, 94-72.

Freshman Meagan Kunert was a double-winner in the 200-yard

individual medley with 2:24.27, and the 500 freestyle with 5:33.94.

Freshman Shea Kopp was a double-winner for the Eagles in the 50

free and the 100 free. Junior Chad Kunert led the Eagles with a

double win in the 200 free (1:55.71) and the 500 free (5:14.60).

Anteaters eke out win

* TENNIS: The UC Irvine men’s tennis team took two of the three

doubles matches in its 4-3 win over Southwest Missouri State

Wednesday.

In the No. 1 doubles match, Anteater seniors Brian Morton and Rye

Kashiwabara won, 8-6, while junior Peter Surapol and sophomore

Mustafa Ulukan won, 8-6.

Pirates knocked off

* TENNIS: Despite a strong finish in singles, the Orange Coast

College women’s tennis team fell for the first time this season, 5-4,

to host Saddleback Wednesday in a Orange Empire Conference match

rescheduled from last Tuesday.

In singles, Michelle Esquivel, Jessica Rice, Emily Paulson and

Julie Hayley took the win for the Pirates (11-1, 7-1 in OEC).

In doubles, Esquivel and Rice were defeated, 8-2.

Sea Kings fall to Uni

* GOLF: The Corona del Mar High boys golf team fell, 207-215, to

University in a Pacific Coast League match at the Newport Beach

Country Club Wednesday.

David Su shot 41 while Matt Story (41), Ben Tilson (43), Cody

Stewart (44) and Jamie Bloom (45) competed for the Sea Kings (3-5,

1-3 in league).

Coast downed in 4

* VOLLEYBALL: The visiting Irvine Valley College men’s volleyball

team posted 10 blocks and took advantage of a late surge in Game 4 to

take down Orange Coast, 29-27, 25-27, 25-23, 25-19, Wednesday in Orange Empire Conference play.

The Pirates (6-7, 3-2 in the OEC) were led by outside hitter Ky

Fell with 18 kills, while Eric Hill added 14 and both Scott Sankey

and Uriah Seui tallied nine. Drew Ginther had 57 assists.

Lions are topped

* TENNIS: The NAIA second-ranked Vanguard University women’s

tennis team fell to top-ranked Auburn Montgomery, 7-2, Wednesday in

nonconference play in Montgomery, Ala.

Amy Brown and Olga Hlushchanka defeated Mandy Septoe and Aina

Rafolomanantsiatosika, 9-8, at No. 1 doubles for the Lions (14-2),

while Hlushchanka won at No. 1 singles.

Vanguard crumbles

* TENNIS: The Vanguard University men’s tennis team fell to NAIA

fourth-ranked Auburn Montgomery, 7-1, in nonconference play Wednesday

in Montgomery, Ala.

Calle Holmgren won twice.
