Red Sox, D-Backs spar for 2-2 tie

The only thing that ran out on the Red Sox and Diamondbacks, two

undefeated teams at Ocean View Little League, was time.

There were plenty of outstanding plays and outstanding pitching on

both sides, but even two extra innings couldn’t determine a winner,

as the game ended in a 2-2 tie.

The game was called due to time constraints.

The Red Sox were led on the mound by Dee Atwood, Zack Gates and

Tyler Hammock, while the Diamondbacks were led by Ben Drolet and Rory

McGee.

Robert Giambone of the Red Sox made a spectacular play on a ball

hit over his head at third base in the eighth and final inning, which

kept the score tied.

David Feirstein also preserved the tie when he tagged out a runner

at home plate.

Hammock, Joey Blood and Jacob Potter each got key hits for the Red

Sox offense.

In other league action:

Giants, 5; Padres, 4

The Giants paired solid pitching with timely hitting to improve to

2-0.

With the game tied, 4-4, Jake Bauers singled and stole second

base, advanced to third on a fielder’s choice, and scored on a passed

ball for the winning run in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Dane Perkins pitched the first 2 1/3 innings for the Giants and

allowed three hits and struck out seven.

Robert Cornwell pitched a scoreless 2/3 of an inning to get the

Giants out of a jam, Bauers threw two innings and gave up a hit to go

along with five strikeouts, and Grant Mayeaux pitched the final

inning and didn’t give up a hit while striking out two.

Bauers and Mayeaux led the Giants on offense with two hits apiece.

The Padres were led by Wyatt Albert, who struck out nine on the

mound and had a double, a pair of singles and two RBIs at the plate.
