Laguna teens raise funds for Hope

A concert by Laguna Beach teens raised more than $3,000 for the

City of Hope at a March 13 benefit concert held at the Festival of

Arts Forum Theatre.

Alec Jaffe, Andrew Levin, Adam Selevan and Daniel Selevan decided

to organize the benefit concert as part of a charity project expected

of boys during their Bar Mitzvah preparations.

The teens were motivated to raise money for cancer research,

having several friends and relatives with cancer who received help

from City of Hope.

Friends performed to help raise money for this endeavor, including

Celena Delpizzo-Howell and Brianna Krantz.

The band Jill’s Bedroom, consisting of seventh-graders Jake

Johnson, lead guitar; Andrew Levin, rhythm guitar; Tyler MacRae,

bassist; Mike Rubel, keyboard and Adam Selevan, drums also performed.

Avishore also performed with members Alec Jaffe, Justin Drucker,

Ian Dull and Zach Singerman.

Teen musical comedy with a message

The Generation GAP, Gallimaufry Performing Arts’ teen theater

company, will perform the musical “Weird Romance” at 7:30 p.m. April

22 and at 2 and 7:30 p.m. April 23 at the Festival of Arts Forum

Theatre, 650 Laguna Canyon Road. Tickets are $12 for adults and $8

for students and seniors.

The Generation GAP is a student-run theater company, whose goal is

to provide Laguna youth the opportunity to experiment and learn all

aspects of theater, including producing, directing, performing,

fundraising, designing and managing.

This group of teens has been meeting for eight months in

preparation for this production. The process began with discussions

and readings of potential material. After deciding what to produce,

the teens began negotiations for the rights, prepared a budget,

secured the theater and began fundraising. It was only after five

months of pre-production that rehearsals began.

The show is being directed and choreographed by Ren Lescault,

produced by Jazz Brice and is receiving musical direction from the

company’s artistic director, Noah Plomgren. The cast includes: Haley

Bierbaum, Jazz Brice, Rachel Busic, Brian Drummy, Annie Freeman,

Patrick Kelly, Adam Kenworthy, Brianna Krantz, Chloe Mansour, Fannie

Olhats, Clara Plomgren, Noah Plomgren, Arianna Ross, Shaina Silverman

and Lindsay Wayne.
