Laguna Outreach’s art workshop today
Laguna Outreach Community Arts “Art Escapes” workshop will be the
second of a three-part acrylic workshop series, “Laguna Locale
Series,” taught by artist Joan Corman from 1:45 to 4 p.m. today.
Learn basic acrylic painting, with the introduction of various
techniques inspired by images of Laguna Beach.
The class is suitable for all artistic levels. The cost is $30,
including materials; class size is limited. The workshop is at the

City Hall art awards and reception April 7
There will be an awards ceremony and reception for the “Art That’s
Small at City Hall” competition, from 5 to 6 p.m. Thursday before
First Thursday’s Art Walk.
First place receives $350, second place $200, third place $50 and
$50 for the City Hall choice winner. The works will be exhibited
through April 29.

Community Art Project revealed
Community Art Project will reveal “Heron” by found-object sculptor
James Koch at 3 p.m. Sunday at 900 Glenneyre St. The public is
invited to the ceremony to meet the artist and have hors d’oeuvres.
This is the first artwork Community Art Project has placed outside of
downtown as part of its new “Art Beyond Borders” program. Funds for
this program were raised at Community Art Project’s “A Night at the

First Sundays music and art at College
As part of the continuing First Sundays program of free art
exhibits and classical music sponsored by the Laguna College of Art &
Design, Laguna Beach Live will present Deodara Quartet from 3 to 4:30
p.m. Sunday at the college, 2222 Laguna Canyon Road.
The College Art Gallery opens at 2 p.m. to view the Annual Juried
Student Exhibition -- work by students at all levels in each major:
fine art, illustration, graphic design, animation.
Plein air painters launch newsletter
Laguna Plein Air Painters Association has launched an electronic

Plein air workshops begin April 2
Students will explore traditional plein air master’s techniques,
including composition, light, nuances of color, value, paint
application and brush stroke techniques taught by Jean Marie. Class
is for adults and ages 8 and older and is from 3 to 6 p.m. April 2, 9
and 16 and May 7, 14 and 21. Cost is $105 for museum members and $120
nonmembers. Easel rental is $15 per session.
Painting like Cezanne April 9
“Painting like Cezanne” is a 3-hour workshop from 9 a.m. to 12
p.m. April 9, with artist Brenda Bredvik. Learn the finer points of
painting -- for first-time artists or more advanced to explore new
techniques. The class is for adults and ages 14 and up. Cost is $40
for museum members and $50 for nonmembers; there is a $15 materials
fee.
Cool Clay for Kids class Mondays
Cool Clay for Kids will be on Mondays from 3:30 to 5 p.m. April 18
through May 23. Students will learn the basics behind a variety of
ceramic techniques, including coil pots and pinch pots, taught by
instructor Lauren Robinson. The class is for ages 6 to 12. Cost is
$120 for museum members and $135 for nonmembers. Materials fee is
$15.

Playhouse Gala to honor Sally Struthers
The Laguna Playhouse 2005 Gala will honor Golden Globe and Emmy
Award Winning Actress Sally Struthers, who starred in the Playhouse’s
2002 production “Always, Patsy Cline,” at 6 p.m. April 16 at the
Montage Resort and Spa. “A Gala Evening in the Tropics” is a black
tie affair with dinner and dancing. Tickets range from $25,000 VIP to
