Schools on high seas

Sailors from second-ranked Newport Harbor High, No. 3 Corona del Mar

and Sage Hill School will compete in the Pacific Coast championships

and the Silver Pacific Coast championships today and Sunday in

Alameda and Coronado, respectively.

The PCC serves as the qualifier for the high school national

championships to be held in Port Washington next month. Each team

will send six to eight sailors to each event, and both events are run

over two days at the respective venues.

The PCC are for varsity sailors while the silver event is for

less-experienced schools. Some schools send teams to both events,

while others are seeded based on historical performance.

CdM’s varsity team includes Reid Vitarelli, Christine Burke,

Andrew Mason, Hadley Rokicki, Peter Tucci, Brittany Sitzer and

Alexandra Dunlap while Charlie Buckingham, Marla, Menninger, Matt

Hogan, Blair Belling, Michael Menninger, Cole Hatton, Taylor Grimes

and Carly Chamberlain comprise Newport’s “gold” team.

Sage Hill’s varsity team includes Ryan Ramming, Don Ayres, Cameron

Stuart, Natalie Boras, Ryan Schweitzer and Nick Sohl.

Silver teams for the three schools are as follows: For Newport,

Phil Houten, Ainsley Buie, Dane Butera, Phillip Ruppert, Brooke

Thomson, Christy Tatchel, Geoffrey Ruppert, Jacqui Bradburne and Ali

Gardner; for CdM, Peter Yould, Peter Wilday, Geoff Machin, Max

Rollins, Elizabeth Lortie, Brett Bartlett and Ryan Pawell; for Sage,

Jeff Cruttenden, Max Moosman, Karly Bennett, Michael Trombatore and

Taylor Moore.Newport Harbor and CdM are ranked in the Pacific Coast

district, which includes more than 50 schools.
