The BEST Choice Graduation Ceremony: B.E.S.T. stands for Behavior

Education Social support Transition. The BEST Choice program began in

2000 as an innovative solution proposed by Sheriff Michael Carona, in

an effort to reduce the recidivism rate of substance abusers and to

decrease the number of victims in the community. Since 2000, hundreds

of inmates of Theo Lacy Jail have voluntarily participated in an

intensive substance abuse recovery program while serving their

sentences. They learn the skills necessary to stay clean and sober

for life and to become responsible, productive members of the

community. Upon release from jail, participants are enrolled in

recovery programs which are supported through various forms of

community-based services provided by Nancy Clark and Associates, Inc.

Successful participants learn how to live life on life’s terms, in

sobriety. The graduation honors those participants who have

maintained sobriety and have successfully reclaimed their lives. This

year the event will feature a “Surf’s Up” theme and will be catered

by In-N-Out Burger. Live music will be provided by “Tradewinds.” It
