Here are some items the Planning Commission will consider tonight.

BAYSIDE CHEVRON

The Chevron gas station at Bayside Drive and Coast Highway is

undergoing renovations that were already approved by the commission,

but restrictions were placed on the land by its former owner, the

Irvine Co. The company is allowed to make changes to the project

design and has requested a different type of canopy and sign.

WHAT TO EXPECT

It’s unclear what the commission will decide, since the features

the Irvine Co. wants to change were heavily discussed before the

project was approved.

SIGN CODE UPDATE

The first overhaul of the city’s sign code in about seven years

will be up for approval by the Planning Commission. Big changes

include reducing the overall size of signs that are allowed and a ban

on roof signs and pole-mounted signs.

The goal is to improve the look of the city by requiring less

obtrusive signs. The city has been working on rewriting the sign code

since the fall.

WHAT TO EXPECT

The sign code isn’t a headline grabber, but the changes were drawn

up with input from businesses and the community, so the commission is

likely to approve them. The City Council still must give final

approval to the code update.
