Red Sox survive Dodgers

The Red Sox pieced together solid pitching with timely hitting to

overcome the Dodgers, 6-5, in Ocean View Little League Minor A

Division action at Murdy Park.

The Red Sox scored two unearned runs in the fifth inning to pull

out the win.

Tyler Hammock started the game for the Red Sox and pitched two

innings before giving way to Dee Atwood, who pitched one inning of

relief. Zack Gates then threw the final three innings, giving up one

hit and striking out seven to get the win.

Atwood also was productive on offense by scoring twice.

Jacob Potter singled and scored a run, Conner Cassotta had a key

single during the comeback and Gates and Trevor Braff each scored

once for the Red Sox.

Connor Hurst pitched three innings for the Dodgers. He also

reached base twice on offense.

Zack Lopez led the Dodgers’ offense with two hits, a walk and two

runs scored. Andrew Arledge had a single and an RBI and Christopher

Smith singled.

Dodgers 9, Giants 4

The Dodgers’ pitching was outstanding as they defeated the Giants

for their fifth win of the season.

Christopher Smith led the Dodgers on offense and defense. Smith

caught four innings, played shortstop and pitched a scoreless sixth

inning. Offensively, Smith singled and doubled, drove in a run and

scored twice.

Luke Fell gave up two runs -- both unearned -- in three innings

and Connor Hurst pitched two innings with four strikeouts for the

Dodgers.

The Dodgers’ pitching did not give up a walk in the game.

Jordan Selder walked and scored a run, Jason Kent had a single,

RBI and scored once, and Matthew Mulholland and Zack Lopez each had

two hits for the Dodgers.
